Heather
Traumatic Brain Injury Patient
Hi my name is Heather I’ve had a traumatic brain injury and now I’m recovering with stem cell therapy. I spent a few months in the hospital and was told by doctors at one-two years out is where my recovery would stop. At that time I wasn’t able to express myself through talking, I was only able to answer with a yes or no. I realized I was suffering from symptoms similar to someone who’d had a stroke. I was thankful I had a portion of my brain to work with; it was time to start researching options I hadn’t tried. I figured out that stem cell therapy could be the only way to heal my brain and to be able to stop altering the way I was living to fit where my recovery had stopped. Quickly my focus moved to where in the world was I going to get this done? Then luckily a Dr. friend put me in touch with the U.S. stem cell clinic. The staff was excellent and quickly answered any questions I had. The fact that Kristin Comella is the scientist in charge and is one of the most influential people involved in stem cell therapy globally made me feel extremely fortunate and that I couldn’t be in better hands. I was also excited to find out I was going to have this option in the U.S. using my own stem cells derived from bone marrow or fat. Those were all of the components I was looking for around the world! I was nearly two years out from my near deadly accident at the time of my first stem cell treatment. At that time I was not able to express my thoughts through talking, I could only answer with a yes or no. Six weeks out from treatment I started noticing improvements and people around me were noticing I was talking and actually engaging in conversation. My walking and coordination also improved by the week to where I was walking smoother but not ready to return to sports as I knew I couldn’t withstand another fall to the head. Unfortunately I was noticing the improvements were slowing so after talking with the staff I knew it was time to return for the next treatment. My guesstimate is that I was forty percent off from my pre accident self prior to the first treatment and twenty percent off after the improvements from the first treatment! I’m happy to say I’ve had my second treatment and now I’m counting down the weeks to when I could start feeling some improvements, can’t wait!
